Agrivoltaics

Agrivoltaics is the term for dual land use of agriculture and solar (photovoltaic) energy generation on the same site. With the area of land in solar farms rapidly increasing, agrivoltaics offers the potential to preserve the food production potential of solar farm sites, while also offering complementary land use and revenue options for farmers. Agrivoltaics is focused on the design and management of sites to optimise both agriculture and solar energy generation outcomes.  The best solution for each site will be determined by the specific site attributes and the goals of the interested parties.  Solar-grazing typically refers to the grazing of sheep on medium to large scale solar farms for vegetation management.  Agrivoltaics and solar-grazing are a specialty area of interest for Anna Vaughan Consulting.

Agrivoltaics in New Zealand

Anna Vaughan Consulting has worked with Prof. Alan Brent and a fantastic team of people to create a range of resources on agrivoltaics, with the support of the Our Land and Water National Science Challenge. These resources are highly valuable for both farmers and solar developers. Additionally, Anna Vaughan Consulting is available to provide consultation services for the planning, implementation and on-going management of agrivoltaics projects throughout New Zealand.
